Senior Archaeologist (Independent Contractor)

AARCHER, INC. is seeking a motivated, highly experienced individual to lead cultural resources business development and project execution for Aarcher. Emphasis will be archaeology for federal clients, especially the land management agencies, in the western U.S. This position is on-call with flexible and negotiable working arrangements.
Aarcher is an environmental consulting services firm founded in 1997. Aarcher provides compliance and risk, conservation and planning, and prevention and sustainability consulting services to government and private clients nationwide. This position would report to the Conservation and Planning Division Manager in Denver. Location of position is flexible in the western U.S.
Responsibilities:
· Conduct business development activities including identifying opportunities, meeting with potential clients and teaming partners, writing proposals.
· Staff and supervise teams to conduct archaeological field work including overseeing subcontractors.
· Write cultural resources sections of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, conduct consultations with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) and tribes.
· Write and conduct technical review of reports.
· Manage projects or tasks and serve as principal investigator.
· Interact with regulatory agencies including SHPOs.
· Interface with Native American tribes and organizations.
· Interface with clients including cultural resources subject matter experts.
· Work closely with other archaeologists, biologists, and planners.
· Ensure full regulatory compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other regulations that protect cultural resources.
· Provide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
· Provide enthusiasm and commitment to client service and technical excellence.
Desired Skills and Experience:
· At least 10 years of archaeology experience with federal agencies in the western US.
· At least 5 years of consulting experience, including business development, proposal writing, and project management.
· Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or equivalent.
· Meets or exceeds Secretary of the Interior's Guidelines in Archaeology.
· Working knowledge of relevant federal regulations including, but not limited to, NHPA and NEPA.
· Strong working relationships with federal agencies.
· Extensive functional network with other cultural resources consultants for forming teaming relationships and assembling field crews.
· Strong project experience and reputation with at least one federal agency and in one state, multiple preferred.
· Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
· Problem solving and ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once.
· Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office (Word and Excel at a minimum); GIS and GPS proficiency preferred.
· Ability to work remotely and independently while effectively collaborating with supervisor and team members.
