Job Description:
Aarcher Talent is seeking a Health and Safety Manager based out of Hagerstown, MD for our client who is a leading mining and mineral processing company. The H&S Manager will be responsible for the administration, oversight, and auditing of health and safety (HS) programs within the company.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Manage the development and implementation of HS policies and programs to embody a world class culture supporting the company’s goals of Zero Accidents.
- Work with site and corporate personnel to develop programs and policies which enhance world-class safety culture
- Support and improve safety auditing programs and work with the sites to ensure timely completion of safety projects and investigations
- Manage company safety training programs to ensure new and existing employees are effectively trained to safely complete work
- Manage Industrial Hygiene Program and supervise one direct employee and multiple indirect employees to monitor and improve IH across the company
- Working closely with the Global Head of Physical Security implement security strategy, policies, and standards for the physical safety of all employees, customers, and visitors to the organization’s facilities.
- Oversee near-hit/accident/injury investigations and support the Human Resources team in evaluating workers compensation cases
- Manage the Health and Safety database and reporting tools to ensure effective tracking and communication of HS related tasks manner; establish metrics and prepare reports to communicate safety performance to upper management
- Assist site personnel with agency inspections including MSHA, OSHA, and CalOSHA, and other HS related regulating agencies and meeting associated reporting deadlines in a timely; review and guide external reporting and communications with these regulatory agencies
- Review new products, raw materials, and supplies for HS-related concerns and manage the Safety Data Sheet inventory system
- Manage the annual employee health screening program
- Respond to emergency situations and events inside and outside of normal business hours
- 1 Direct report and 2-4 indirect resorts
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Travel up to 50% domestically
- Audit planning and leading, Root cause and incident investigations, and Incident response and crisis management.
- Experience leading a team /direct supervisory responsibilities
- Working Conditions: Office, travel and outdoors within the Plant and Mine environment
- Federal DOT and state equivalent programs
- Previous experience in an MSHA and state equivalent regulatory environment and protocols
- Physical Requirements: Computer, ability to make oral presentations, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., standing or sitting for extended periods, extended or irregular hours, bending, climbing, kneeling, stooping, walking on uneven terrain.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer-sponsorship.
Desired:
- BS in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or related field
- 6+ years HS management in an industrial environment
- 4+ years’ experience in a mining (MSHA) environment
